How to create sophisticated legend patches for QGIS

Legend patches are abstract representations of the features in your map. It is a different level of abstraction from the one you used to draw your features because it represents all of them with a single shape that will use the style you assigned for your layer. Therefore you want to be as minimalistic as possible, but minimalistic does not mean to be simplistic, your patch could be as complex as you wish, but bare in mind that it will represent a set of features that share common characteristics

Think about a river, how would you represent it abstractly? Let’s suppose that is the Mississippi. Or, let’s imagine that is the Nile. Would you represent them the same way? What about a natural reservoir that has mixed areas, Imagine this reservoir with ponds, lakes and pools, a creek and a small waterfall pouring water on a big river; then you have forestry, grassy and wetland areas. You want to represent everything differently. What would be the difference between a lake, a pond and a pool? How would you represent each feature?

History of Mexican cinema

Some days ago, I tried to explain the history of Mexican cinema to two friends, one British and one French. It was hard, but from my perspective, ignorant and humble opinion, I came up with an age classification: pre-1968 or the so-called «Golden Age»: This era is characterised by a wide range of topics and experimentation. Thoughtful scripts, but also some movies framed within Mexican nationalism and some others even indoctrination. However, overall they are not so bad and actually, they reflect a Mexico that is way far gone, not only physically but ideologically or culturally. It is called the Golden Age not only because of the quality of the movies but also the amount of movies and genres. Comedy was well represented by famous figures such as Chabelo, Tintan, Cantinflas, Resortes, and even Viruta and Capulina. Drama was well represented with famous figures such as Pedro Infante, Dolores del Río, María Félix, Pedro Armendariz, Emilio Fernández, Sara García, Fernando Soto, María Eugen...

The Global Theatre: A Modern Reign of Power

This content was created after a long, loooong discussion with a couple of AI models. The first model was LlaMA, and the second was ChatGPT. I prompted "years from 1789" and then LlaMA told me that 344. I broke LlaMA inasmuch as it could not answer me why 344. But then I played along and basically I ended up combining 1681, 1789, 2025, Trump, Crimea, Putin, Louis XIV and even Charles... This content was AI generated. All the crazy stuff and how the ideas were intermingled and narrated are on me. The text is a mix between LlaMA and ChatGPT. The image was created with Dreamscape. In the early 21st century, the world finds itself under a new form of leadership, one that resembles the absolute monarchy of the 17th century. In this grand political theatre, Donald Trump steps onto the stage not as a traditional politician, but as a modern incarnation of the pomp and bravado of Louis XIV. Just as the French king famously declared, “L’État, c’est moi” (I am the State), Trump has ma...
